· PhysBrain 1.5 ⚠️ vendor-reported: On September 9, Beijing-based Shenzhu Jizhi (Deep Robotics, Chinese embodied AI startup) open-sourced its physical foundation model PhysBrain 1.5, releasing a technical report, 2B and 8B parameter weight versions, and an evaluation toolkit. The project page self-reports that the 8B version achieved an overall average score of 72.5 across 28 public benchmarks, ranking first among participating open-source models—6.5 points above the second-place Hy-Embodied-VLM-1.0—while GPT-6 Astra scored 73.3 on the same table. The Pre-A round was led by Da Chen Capital (Chinese VC firm), and the Pre-A+ round by Oriza Holdings (Chinese VC firm), with funds earmarked mainly for expanding the R&D team and building a standardized product matrix. Founded in July 2022, the company builds physical AI for industrial settings, centered on its self-developed WMM World Mechanism Model. WMM incorporates dynamical structure and physical constraints into model learning, and uses Koopman latent-space constraints to suppress error accumulation in multi-step prediction. Its product is the PRIMACT R100 edge platform plus toolchain and process packages, designed to be layered onto existing machine tools and robotic arms. On September 12, UBTech (Chinese humanoid robot maker)'s Liuzhou super smart factory began production, primarily manufacturing the Walker S and Cruzr series. The factory spans 14,000 square meters. By design, it can turn out 1 unit every 10 minutes, with planned annual capacity of over 10,000 units. The whole plant was co-built with Siemens digital industrial software, using Plant Simulation for factory-wide logistics simulation, with the jointly developed Yanshee MOM system centrally scheduling AGVs, automated warehouses, and industrial robots. Final assembly does not use a fixed line, instead using collaborative robots, power-assist manipulators, and 360°-rotating fixture stations for mixed-line assembly. Each humanoid unit requires over 2,000 screws across more than 50 specifications, with over 4 hours of full-unit testing before shipment. In-plant depalletizing, palletizing, and material feeding are handled by Cruzr Y1 and Cruzr S2 units. This heavy-duty robot has a rated load capacity of 750 kg, a 3.6-meter arm span, and pose repeatability of ±0.15 mm, using 3D vision positioning for dynamic grasping. The project launched in March, jointly advanced by Mengshi (Dongfeng's premium off-road vehicle brand) and the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, as part of a key project under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's high-quality development initiative. The paint shop simultaneously deployed an automated mid-coat surface inspection and polishing system, with defect detection accuracy over 95%. Starting in April, a batch of humanoid robots entered routine mass-production work on the final-assembly SPS logistics line, with grasping success rate rising to 95.6%. GMO launches humanoid robot "ambulance" in Tokyo · adjacent
GMO Internet Group's GMO Air unit has launched a service vehicle described as Japan's first "robot ambulance," soon to be put into use in Tokyo. The vehicle carries engineers, repair tools, spare parts, and a backup humanoid robot. If a client's humanoid malfunctions, engineers first diagnose it on-site; if it can't be fixed there, they leave the backup unit and take the malfunctioning one back to a repair base. The vehicle itself is not self-driving. On September 11, Neolix (Chinese autonomous delivery vehicle maker) launched its first L4 validation test in Japan at the Tokyo Ryutsu Center (TRC) in Heiwajima, Tokyo. The first batch of vehicles arrived on August 31 and are currently operating in the site's parking lot and on the rooftop road of Building A, with the fleet planned to expand in stages to 10 vehicles. The test models are the Xolra3 and Xolra6, the latter with a 6-cubic-meter cargo box and maximum payload of 1,000-1,130 kg. The Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress passed the Beijing Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information Regulation, effective January 1, 2027, which simultaneously repeals the previous 2003 regulation. The new regulation comprises nine chapters and 66 articles, and introduces a fast-track review mechanism for autonomous driving maps; the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources says it will implement online intelligent review. Activities such as aerial surveying photography and navigation electronic map data collection must be filed for record before being carried out. Providing autonomous driving map data to parties outside China will follow relevant national regulations. Hyundai Motor delays self-developed Atria AI by two years, will launch Nvidia-based solution first in 2028 · autonomy
Hyundai Motor Group has set the launch of its self-developed driver-assistance system Atria AI for the second half of 2029, two years later than the originally planned end of 2027. The transition period will rely on Nvidia: in 2028, the company will first mass-produce L2+ vehicles using the Nvidia Drive platform and Hyperion 10 sensor suite. This hardware package includes 10 cameras, 1 forward radar, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, with computing power provided by Orin X. Data collected by the fleet using Nvidia's solution will be fed back into Atria AI training. The Atria AI fleet will start at L2++ in 2029, with plans to later expand to L4. Park Min-woo, head of Hyundai Motor Group's AVP division and CEO of 42dot, said the group sells 7 million vehicles annually across 190 countries, and "once the autonomous driving system enters mass production, we expect our real-world data volume to surpass competitors' within five years." Shanghai AI Laboratory's newly released W0 model handles vision, force, and touch simultaneously: as a robot approaches an object, it uses vision to locate the target, then adjusts using force and tactile feedback after contact. The model uses an "asynchronous, dual-frequency" architecture, in which background planning and real-time action proceed in parallel, so action adjustments don't need to wait for a new planning cycle to complete. The lab says W0 has been integrated into its "Shusheng·Duanyan" scientific discovery platform, and together with its Shusheng science foundation model S2, supports researchers in completing combined dry-and-wet-lab experiments such as lipid nanoparticle synthesis and organic synthesis of mepivacaine.
